Elaine Dederick Giebelhaus, 72, of Hurley, peacefully passed away on July 14, 2017. She handled her illness with dignity, grace and inspiring willpower.

Born in Kingston, she was daughter to the late Angela and Elbert Dederick.

Elaine was educated at SUNY Delhi and New Paltz and worked over 20 years for Ulster County Community College. After her retirement, she spent summers at the family cabin in the Adirondack­s or enjoying an afternoon on Speaker Heck Island with a book and her knitting. Her winters were spent on the warm sands of Hilton Head Island. No matter where she traveled, she would become a friend to all. She traveled extensivel­y throughout Europe with her husband, Richard. There was always another cruise or adventure she was waiting for. She dedicated herself to her community and loved being with her friends and family. Elaine’s world would stop for any activity that involved her beloved grandchild­ren.

She also had a passion for genealogy, which led her to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also actively involved in the Red Hats Society and the knitting group in Hurley. Elaine grew up in Kingston, where she developed lifelong friendship­s.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard; their loving sons, Joseph and Jeffrey; along with her grandchild­ren, Ryan, Lynea, Abigail and Lillian; and daughtersi­n-law, Nicole and Nancy. She is also survived by her brother, William Dederick.

In addition to her parents, Elaine was predecease­d by a brother, Thomas Dederick.

Elaine will be reposing at Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston, on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral procession will form from the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church.

Interment will follow in Hurley Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.
