Hideko ‘Heidi’ Zwick, 83, of Maui, Hawaii

Hideko “Heidi” Zwick passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2017, in hospice care. She was surrounded by her loving husband, Edward, her nieces Yoshiko and Chikako, and a number of her Maui friends. Heidi was born Dec. 11, 1933, in Odawara, Japan, and was the youngest of eight siblings in the Takahashi family. She emigrated to the United States in 1958, and lived for many years in South Florida before moving to Maui. Heidi had a long and happy marriage to Edward Zwick. Along with Edward, she is survived by her children, Shelley Nagar and David Zwick, and five grandsons, Adam, Benji, Daniel, Carter and Trevor. She was also a devoted grandmothe­r to Talia.

Heidi combined her love of nature, art and Japanese culture to become one of the leading Ikenobo Ikebana Senseis in the United States. She conducted classes in Florida, the Northeast and Maui. She taught her last class at Roselani Place in February of this year. She was recognized by the Japanese Cultural Society for teaching Ikebana in Florida and by Maui County for her contributi­ons. She also loved Japanese dance and music and was an accomplish­ed Koto player. Heidi will be remembered by family members and loving friends around the world as a championsh­ip golfer and a terrific cook, for her elegant sense of style and for her great sense of humor. She loved animals and was devoted to her Shih Tzu, Pumpkin.

A memorial service honoring Heidi Zwick will be held in Kingston, N.Y., at Wiltwyck Golf Club on July 23. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons to Roselani Place are encouraged. Roselani Place’s address is 88 South Papa Ave., Kahului, HI 96732.
