Knicks tab Perry GM; keep Mills as president

Scott Perry is with his third NBA franchise in three months, and is inheriting a massive challenge in New York.

Perry’s hiring as the Knicks’ general manager was announced Friday, along with Steve Mills’ promotion to another stint as president of the team. It’s all part of the upheaval for the Knicks created by the departure of former president Phil Jackson after three miserable seasons, and completes a whirlwind three months for Perry.

He was fired from his assistant GM role by Orlando in April, then hired as executive vice president in Sacramento, and now is off to New York. The Knicks technicall­y traded for Perry, sending the Kings a future second-round pick and cash considerat­ions.

Hayner, a senior, was the Freeman’s Pitcher of the Year. He posted a 6-1 record with a 1.20 ERA, while limiting opponents to a .147 batting average. Kivlan, a junior outfielder, hit .468 for the Tigers with a .517 on-base average. He drove in 16 runs, while scoring 14. Genther, a sophomore shortstop, hit .253 with 17 runs scored, seven doubles, a triple, a home run, 12 RBI and a .387 OBA.

Zinko, a catcher, hit .407 for the Panthers with two home runs and 20 RBI, while Doering, a senior pitcher, was 4-3 with a 2.89 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings. Dunikowski, a senior outfielder/pitcher, hit .381 with 19 runs scored and 12 RBI.

Dennis, a senior centerfiel­der/pitcher, hit .308 for the Sawyers, with 32 runs scored, four doubles, four triple, six home runs, 23 RBI and a .460 OBA, while VanDerbeck, a senior catcher/rightfield­er, hit .392 with 22 runs scored, five doubles, three triples, one home run, 28 RBI and a .535 OBA.

Cohan, a senior outfielder/ pitcher, hit .297 with 15 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, two home runs, 13 RBI and a .395 OBA. On the mound, he was 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA. Normann, a junior shortstop, hit .341 with 26 runs scored, nine doubles, three triples, 24 RBI and a .341 OBA.

Huffman hit .437 for the Ganders with 18 runs scored, 10 doubles, a triple, three home runs and 17 RBI. Hikade, a junior shortstop, hit .338 with 18 runs scored, six doubles, two triple and 10 RBI, while Cranfield, a senior

pitcher, was 4-2 with a 1.40 ERA.

Daubon hit .400 for the Huskies with 30 runs scored, three doubles, a triple, two home runs, 14 RBI and a .494 OBA, while Turner, a junior third baseman, hit .419 with 20 runs scored, six doubles, 12 RBI and a .455 OBA. Alfonso, a senior catcher/designated hitter, hit .357 with 16 runs scored, six doubles, 22 RBI and a .451 OBA.

Mongelli, a sophomore shortstop for the Dukes, hit .491 with 19 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 17 RBI and a .625 OBA, while Funk, who pitched and played shortstop for the Bombers, hit .467 with 25 runs scored, five doubles, four triples, three home runs, 24 RBI and a .532 OBA. On the mound, he was 6-3 with a 2.16 ERA.

Huffman, Zinko, Kelder, Hikade, Dennis, Dunikowski, Kivlan and Funk were recent Freeman firstteam All-Star selections, while Cohan, Cranfield, Genther and Mongelli were second-team picks. Alfonso, Daubon, Turner, Normann, Vanderbeck and Doering, meanwhile, earned honorable mention accolades.
