FIELD HOCKEY Camps Kingston Field Hockey Mini-Camp: For kindergart­en through grade 8 5-7 p.m. Aug. 28-30 at Dietz Stadium. A perfect opportunit­y to teach young girls basic techniques, game play, socialize and to fall in love with the sport. Athletes learn stick work, ball handling, offensive and defensive positiong as well as overall team play and teamwork. KHS varsity and junior varsity coaches, including new varsity coach Samantha Ward, will direct the camp. Campers will be split up and coached by Kingston Tiger players. Fee: $50. Campers may bring their own equipment and are encouraged to bring their own water. Sticks, balls, mouth guards and shin guards will also be available for use. Camp focuses on basic fundamenta­ls in addition to intense work on learning and improving skills, effective drills and developing proper work habits. Athletes place into groups based on age and ability. Players also have the opportunit­y to learn about other positions during specialty groups. Coach-to-athlete ration is 1:12. Bring a glove, bat, baseball hat, long athletic pants and footwear (rubber spikes/sneakers). Catchers should bring chest protector, helmet, shin guards and face mask if they have them.
