Martha S. Reid, 91, of Red Hook, passed away on Sept. 8, 2017, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y.

Born on July 10, 1926, in Hazelton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Onufer and Julia (Dran) Sharwarko.

Martha graduated from Hazelton High School and Susquehann­a University.

Martha was trained in laboratory technology and worked in Scranton, Pa., and West Point Hospital.

She married George M. Reid Jr. on June 6, 1951, in Hazelton, Pa., and he predecease­d her on May 3, 2010, after 59 years of marriage.

Martha and George resided in several states and Germany with the U.S. Army until 1956, when the move came to New York with IBM. The Reids first lived in New Paltz and moved to Red Hook in 1957.

She was an over 60-year communican­t of St. Christophe­r’s Church in Red Hook and was a member of the St. Christophe­r’s Church Ladies Guild.

Martha was a past leader of the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, and was past president of the Red Hook Garden Club. She also was active in all of her children’s activities and was instrument­al in local fund drives, including those for the Red Hook Pool and Rec Park.

Martha is survived by her children and their spouses, David A. and Jean Reid of Kissimmee, Fla., William A. and Karen Reid of Scarboroug­h, Maine, Brian T. and Lisa Reid of Red Hook, N.Y., and Nancy R. and Thomas Jantzen of Clermont, N.Y.; her loving grandchild­ren, Alison, Karl, Kelley, and Logan Reid, and Thomas, Ryan, Matthew, and Liam Jantzen; her sister-in-law, Marion Gannon of Laurel, Md.; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was predecease­d by her son, George M. Reid III; her grandson, Karl Reid; and her siblings, Ted, John, and Anna.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at St. Christophe­r’s Church, Red Hook. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
