MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. » Big plays by Middletown hurt Kingston High’s football team Friday night. The Tigers showed clear signs of improvement, but lost to the Middies, 41-28, in a Section 9, Class AA, Division I contest at Faller Field.

JaVar Tinsley rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tigers, who fell to 0-2 on the year and lost their 11th consecutive game.

Jeniel Foster ran for 155 yards and three TDs to lead (2-0) Middletown, which had a 41-14 lead midway through the third quarter.

The game proved to be tremendously sloppy on both sides. Kingston had six turnovers on four interceptions and losing two of six fumbles. Middletown had five fumbles, losing one. The teams also combined for 26 penalties, including 17 by the Middies, who had a long fumble recovery for a score negated by a tripping call.

Middletown’s only lost fumble led to Chapman Parker’s 29-yard TD pass to Daivel Jackson to put Kingston up 6-0 early.

Middletown countered with 70- and 51-yard touchdown runs by Foster, plus a 40-yard interception return for a score by linebacker Pete Plunkett to put the home team ahead 21-6 at halftime.

The Tigers opened the second half with a 64-yard drive capped by Tinsley running for a 4-yard TD, then using a second effort to score on a two-point conversion.

Middletown responded with Khali Pinckney’s 32-yard TD, then cashed in cornerback Tyshawn Milligan’s interception with Foster’s 6-yard score to build its advantage to 41-14 with 6:07 left in the third.

Tinsley scored on a 71-yard burst on the very next play from scrimmage for Kingston. Matt Amato, who finished with 82 yards, raced 61 yards for a

TD to get the Tigers within 41-28 with 3:38 remaining, but Middletown got a couple of first downs to run out the clock.

Parker completed 11 of 17 passes for 127 yards, the one TD and four interception for Kingston. Mahki Matthews had seven catches for 48 yards.

Kingston plays its home opener 7 p.m. Friday against (0-2) Minisink Valley. It’s the only scheduled Friday night home game for the Tigers, whose other Dietz Stadium contests are on Saturday.
