Kingston opens season with win over Pine Bush

Grace Gavis and Bridgie Loughlin added an assist each for the Tigers, while Lizzy Smith and Analiese Amato combined to make five saves in the win.

“We played very well and played as a team,” said first-year Kingston coach Samantha Ward, who replaced longtime coach Debbie Eaton after she retired at the end of the school year. “Pumped to start the season with a win and on a high note.”

Helen Deretchin scored the lone goal for the Lady Bushmen, while Erin Vandemark stopped nine shots in the loss.

The Tigers host Onteora at 4:30 p.m. Monday in their home opener. Rondout 6, Pine Plains 0

Erin Weimann had three goals and two assists as the Ganders blanked the Bombers.

Weimann’s unassisted goal opened the scoring, while a pair of goals by Courtney Coffey — each off a Weimann assist — gave Rondout a 3-0 lead at the half.

A pair of unassisted goals by Weimann in the second half extended the lead to 5-0 before Sofia Schoonmake­r’s unassisted goal closed out the scoring.

Courtney Smith had two stops for the (3-0, 1-0) Ganders, while Alice Wilser and Angelina Manning combined for 12 stops for Pine Plains. Ellenville 2, Onteora 0

At Ellenville, two early goals lifted the Blue Devils over the Eagles as each team opened the season.

Ashlyn Rivera opened the scoring off a Mia Unverzagt assist just 42 seconds into the match. Fifteen minutes later, Rivera connected with Jakiaya Richardson to make it 2-0 in the only scoring in the remainder of the contest.

Onteora could not capitalize on a 13-9 edge in shots on goal and a 6-3 advantage in corners.

Megan Eckert had nine saves for Ellenville, while Baileigh Griese recorded four for the Eagles. Spackenkil­l 3, Rhinebeck 0

At Spackenkil­l, Liz Schroeder made 11 saves to preserve the shutout for the Spartans.

Cassidy Gent had a goal and two assists in the win, while Kristy Housekeepe­r and Briana Kanthak added a goal each. Red Hook 3, Webutuck 0

At Red Hook, freshman Danielle Walsh scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the Raiders.

At New Paltz, Jimmy Verney rushed 18 times for 90 yards and one touchdown and completed 6 of 10 passes for 157 yards and two more scores as the (20) Huguenots handled (11) Spackenkil­l.
