Erwin LeRoy Farnett, 82, of Woodstock

-

Erwin LeRoy Farnett, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, while on vacation in Canada.

Born in Constantia, N.Y., Oct. 9, 1934, he was the son of the late Edward and Hazel Farnett.

“Erv,” as he was called, built a home in Woodstock in 1969 and was involved in many volunteer activities. He was proud of the passage of the Comeau Easement, as he assisted and aided his wife Marge, who chaired the advisory committee.

Erv loved Woodstock, European travel, and Syracuse University sports.

He ran with his wife in three New York City marathons and was a member of the Woodstock Golf Club for decades. After graduating from Syracuse University, he spent two years in the U.S. Army’s Third Infantry. His entire working career was with IBM.

He is survived by his wife, Marge, and daughter Kathleen of Sorrento, Fla.

Erv wrote a personal book of his life and in that quoted Bruce Springsteen: “There’s no better way that I would like to describe my life than as a heart stopping, earthquaking, love-making, terrifying, death defying journey on this earth! Let the good times roll.” Erv loved that he took his family to Woodstock ’69, and he loved rock concerts.

A gathering of his family and friends will be Thursday, Sept. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lasher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Tinker St., Woodstock. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Woodstock Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 222, Woodstock, N.Y. 12498, would be appreciated.
