Saugerties wins in shootout; Onteora notches first win in four years

Unbeaten New Paltz and Marlboro prevail; Rondout, Ellenville, Roosevelt win; Red Hook, Highland Wallkill, Pine Plains lose

Saugerties High captured its first football win of the season Saturday, outlasting Monticello in a 53- 42 Section 9, Class A battle.

Jack Hindes rushed for 214 yards to lead the (1-2 Class A, 1-3 overall) Sawyers.

“Jack carried the Sawyers on his back. The team had a bunch of starters out, but did enough to get the victory,” Saugerties coach Dom Zarrella said. “Backup Graeme Knissell ran the offense. He did a great job.”

Jimmy Heinlein scored on a kickoff return and defensive end Zach Hartrum had a fumble return for a touchdown for the Sawyers.

Khadeem Richard single-handedly powered (1-3) Monticello, rushing for 327 yards and six TDs on 27 carries. Onteora 48, Eldred 26

At Boiceville, Onteora made Homecoming extra special by winning its first game in four years. The Ea- gles, which had not fielded a varsity team the past three seasons, last won on Sept. 21, 2013.

Damon Wells rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns and Miles Eberhard ran twice for 60, scoring both times, to lead (1-3) Onteora. Eberhard also caught a TD pass, as did Noah Kight, who also scored on kickoff returns of 73 and 75 yards.

The Eagle defense was led by linebacker Sam Cogan (11 tackles), Kight (10), Wells (seven) and lineman Ngoe’e Crossan (seven). Rondout 53, Highland 13

At Kyserike, Ben Hikade threw for four touchdowns and ran for another while AJ Parete rushed for 138 yards and two scores as Rondout Valley won its first game of the season for new coach Bob Koonz.

Hikade completed 12-of17 passes for 138 yards, including TD connection­s of 20 yards to Spencer Sands and 10 to Lukas Poremba in the second quarter. He hit Poremba with a 22-yard TD and Raffy Pereira with a 34-yard scoring strike in the third.

Parete had a 3-yard TD run and Hikade scored on a 30-yard scramble in the first quarter to give the (1-3) Ganders a 14-6 lead.

Parete scored again on a 1-yard carry in the second period. Sands tallied on a 60-yard punt return in the third.

Kyle van Laer had 10 tackles, including a sack, and Tyler Tomlin and Isaiah Jones each recovered a fumble to lead the Rondout defense.

Max Vidal threw TD passes to Adam Albright and Dario DeValentin­o for (0-4) Highland. Spackenkil­l 57, Red Hook 44

At Poughkeeps­ie, Red Hook lost a Class B slugfest as Dhyquem Lewinson ran 22 times for a school-record 302 yards and seven TDs to carry (2-2) Spackenkil­l to victory.

Dylan Bayliss kept the (13) Raiders in the hunt by completing 19-of-31 passes for 360 yards and four touchdowns. Tanner Guidi had nine catches for 101 yards and one TD. Tristen Schiafo rushed 14 times for 73 yards and a score for Red Hook. New Paltz 33, O’Neill 14

At Highland Falls, unbeaten New Paltz improved to 4- 0 as Jimmy Verney rushed for 199 yards and two TDs and connected on his seven pass attempts for 141 yards to spearhead the Huguenots in a Class B contest.

Brian Kenney had 81 yards on three catches, Mike Pisciotta carried for 80 yards and two scores and Kenny Verney ran for 62 yards and a TD for New Paltz.

Jordan Vasquez had an intercepti­on and Kenny Verney made nine tackles to anchor the Hugie defense. Marlboro 44, Liberty 20

At Marlboro, the undefeated (4- 0) Dukes erased a 14-7 halftime deficit and scored 30 second-half points to beat (2-2) Liberty in a Class B game.

Billy Williamson rushed for 135 yards and one TD on eight carries and Phil DeSantis had 56 yards and two scores to lead the way. Sam Mongelli, Eric Borchert and Mohamad Bank also scored for Marlboro.

Roy Penn- Cosentino rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns, Jake Lesczynski carried for 71 yards and Carter Harmon had a TD run for Liberty. Ellenville 38, Pawling 0

At Ellenville, the (2-2) Blue Devils had 300 yards on offense in this non-league game. Junior Anthony Walton led the team, running for TDs of 3, 12, 39 and 68 yards. Sean Pettway had touchdown runs of 4 and 22 yards.

Senior Joe Hori and junior Edjren Jorje anchored a line that held (1-3) Pawling to 156 yards. Ray Younger made his sixth intercepti­on this season.

Ellenville has allowed just three touchdowns in the last three games. Roosevelt 65, Wallkill 14

At Hyde Park, Jake Niesen, Elijah Hewitt and Devante Pavelock combined to run for 340 yards as (3-1) Roosevelt overwhelme­d (0-3 Class A, 0-4) Wallkill.

Niesen had 113 yards and three TDs, Pavelock 101 and two scores and Hewitt 106 and another touchdown for the Presidents.

Ryan Taylor threw for 106 yards, including two TDs and 80 yards to Tyler Van Steenburgh. Tuckahoe 39, Pine Plains 6

At Eastcheste­r, Matt Annunziata threw for two touchdowns and ran for one to lead (3-1) Tuckahoe in a non-league game against Pine Plains/Rhinebeck.

Daron Williams and Eric Segura had the TD catches in the win.

Tuckahoe had a pair of intercepti­ons, including a picksix by Peter Gerken.

Pine Plains cut the deficit to 14-6 late in the first half on Evan Proper’s 65-yard fumble recovery.

Proper rushed for 45 yards, Matt Beam 40 and Kyle Stracher 35 for (2-2) Pine Plains.
