Susan M. Powell, of Round Top, N.Y., has been granted professor emeritus status by the board of trustees of Columbia-Greene Community College.

The distinctio­n was awarded at the board’s September meeting.

Powell began her career at the college in 1982, in the Science Division. Her teaching career began in 1993, and spanned more than 20 years; in that time, she obtained the rank of full professor, served on many committees, developed new courses in lectures and labs, and was instrument­al as coadviser of Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society for twoyear college students.

Powell also is the recipient of the Chancellor’s and President’s awards for Excellence in Teaching.
