Rhinebeck downs Dover to win sectional crown

Rhinebeck High won its first Section 9 title in three years with a 2-0 win over Dover in the Class B final.
MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. » Freshmen Johnny Lange and Noah Lortie each scored goals Thursday, carrying Rhinebeck High to its first Section 9 boys soccer championship in three years as the Hawks blanked Dover 2-0 in the Class B final at Faller Field.
Lange scored an unassisted goal to put Rhinebeck ahead 13 minutes into the match. He then assisted on Lortie’s big insurance goal three minutes into the second half.
It is the Hawks’ first title since winning the state championship back in 2014.
Rhinebeck begins down that road to the final four when it plays the Section 1 champion 4:30 p.m. Nov. 4 in a regional semifinal at Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak in Westchester County. The Section 1 Class B title game between Briarcliff and Rye Neck is scheduled to take place Saturday
at 5:30 p.m. at Lakeland High.
At Wallkill, thirdseeded Red Hook advanced to the Class A finals with a win over the No. 2 Panthers.
The Raiders took control with both of their goals in the first half.
Owen Sagerman connected nine minutes into the match, and Colin Sullivan scored with 19:31 left in the half.
Red Hook plays topseeded Goshen for the title 5 p.m. Saturday at Roosevelt. Goshen reached the finals with a 5-1 victory over Cornwall.
