Supervisor has two election challengers
5 running for 2 seats on Town Board
WAWARSING, N.Y. » Town Supervisor Leonard Distel has two challengers in next month’s election, while five people are vying for two seats on the Town Board.
Distel is being challenged in the Nov. 7 election by current Town Board member Terry Houck and by Al Perry. Distel, who served as supervisor in 2010 and 2011, is seeking his second consecutive four-year term.
Distel will be on the Green and Working Families lines on the ballot, while Houck will be on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform lines. Perry will appear on the Democratic and Clean Sweep lines.
In the race for two fouryear terms on the Town Board, no incumbents are seeking re-election. On the ballot will be TJ Briggs, Roger Buchwalter, John Burns, Eric Friedman Sr. and Paul McAndrews Jr.
Briggs, currently an Ulster County legislator, will run on the Democratic and Clean Sweep lines, while Buchwalter has the Democratic, Green, Independence and Clean Sweep lines. Burns will be on the Green and Working Families lines, while Friedman has the Republican, Conservative and Reform lines, and McAndrews has the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform lines.
In uncontested races, town Receiver of Taxes Robin Andersen and Superintendent of Highways Tony Paes are seeking their third four-year terms. Town Justice Wayne Lonstein, who has been on the bench since 1989, also is unopposed for another four-year term.
Anderson and Paes will run on the Democratic, Conservative, Independence and Clean Sweep lines, while Lonstein has the Democratic and Clean Sweep lines.
