STAATSBURG, N.Y. » Roosevelt High’s boys defended their MidHudson Athletic League cross country title Friday, but New Paltz’s girls denied the Lady Presidents a repeat of their own.

Roosevelt edged Red Hook 4152 for the boys crown, while the Huguenots won 40-49 for the girls title.

The Presidents’ Sarah Trainor repeated as individual champion, winning the five-kilometer race easily in 19:19.63. The sophomore won by nearly 72 seconds ahead of runner-up Jennifer Callan of Rondout Valley (20:31.34).

A trio of juniors followed the leaders, with Red Hook’s Sheena Dwyer-McNulty (20:51.45) third, Abigail Gravatt of New Paltz fourth (21:02.40) and Nadia Cathcart fifth (21:20.04).

Valentina Arizzi was sixth (21:28.31), Amelia St. John eighth (21:35.18), Samantha Shane 13th (22:13.58) and Jordan Nagel 18th (22:45.98) to help lead New Paltz.

Roosevelt’s boys took three of the top four spots to lock down their title. Senior Liam Farrell won in 16:33.06, Wyatt Matyas was second (16:53.89) and Tito Maresca fourth (17:13.95) to lead the Presidents.
