SAUGERTIES » Bernadette M. Verpent died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Health-Alliance of the Hudson Valley in Kingston. She was 90 years old.

Born Aug. 30, 1927 in Jersey City, N.J.; she was the daughter of Bernard McHugh and Ann Kahrar McHugh. On Jan. 26,1946 she married George Verpent who predecease­d her in 1990.

She was a parishione­r of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Centervill­e and was very active with various local and internatio­nal charitable organizati­ons. The majority of her time was spent as a devoted mother and grandmothe­r.

Survivors include her six children, Gregory Verpent and his wife Ninfa of Boonton, N.J., Kevin Verpent of Saugerties, Mark Verpent and his wife Mary Jean of Bayville, N.J., Susan Romano and her husband George of Vernon, N.J., Maureen Constanza and her husband Gerald of Toms River, N.J., and Carolyn Damrath and her husband Joseph of Saugerties; 10 grandchild­ren; and seven great-grandchild­ren.

She was predecease­d by her son Timothy Verpent in 2010.

A Funeral procession will form 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, N.Y., and then proceed to St. John the Evangelist Parish Center in Centervill­e, where a 10 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow immediatel­y in Blue Mountain Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
