- Freeman staff

The Ellenville Central School District has announced that it has created an Athletic Hall of Fame with athletes, coaches and other inductees honored each fall at the Homecoming football game.

A committee comprised of two current coaches and seven community members is being formed. The are tasked to assess and select inductees.

Nominations will be accepted through April 15 of each year. Inductees will be announced later in the spring.

“It’s very appropriate that we have this Hall of Fame established to recognize the accomplishments of those fine athletes, coaches and benefactors who have contributed so greatly to the athletic program here in Ellenville,” said Kermit Moyer, the district’s Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics.

“As a former teach and coach in the district, I know firsthand the rich history that we have,” said John Burns, an Ellenville Board of Education trustee who is serving as Hall of Fame Chairperson. “So many athletes have come through and done a great job. They deserve to be memorialized in this way.”

Candidates, athletes or teams, become eligible a minimum of six years after graduating Ellenville High and completing their athletic accomplishments. They must have made significant and extraordinary contributions while exemplifying good char-

acter, sportsmanship and leadership.

The Hall is also open

to retired coaches or administrators as well as honorary recipients who must have made a significant impact on the school and/or on the sectional, state, national, professional or international

level.

Nomination forms are available in Ellenville High’s athletic office and at www.ecs.k12. ny.us. Completed forms and specified supporting materials must be

submitted by the April 15 deadline.

Community members interesed in joining the committee are asked to contact Moyer at (845) 647-0134 or kmoyer@ ecs.k12.ny.us
