Sheriff's office probing possible home invasion
Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating home invasion in which one victim sustained injuries.
ANCRAM, N.Y. » The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating a possible home invasion on Hall Hill Road in the Columbia County town in which one victim was hurt.
At about 7 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a reported home invasion and were assisted by state police. They found three victims in the residence, according to a press release.
The victims reported that while they were in the residence, three male suspects entered the home brandishing weapons and assaulted two of the victims. Police said the male subjects attempted to detain a third victim using duct tape and a fourth victim was able to escape the residence and went to a nearby neighbor’s home to contact police.
The victims defended themselves and fought off the attackers, according to police. One of the victims, an adult male, suffered nonlife threatening cuts to his face and was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he was treated and later released.
So far, police said, the investigation has found that the suspects arrived and left in a small SUVtype vehicle believed to have been driven by a fourth suspect who did not enter the home.
At this time investigators do not believe this to be a random crime, police said.
The investigation is continuing and investigators are attempting to identify and locate the suspects and the vehicle used in the crime.
