16U Fillies reach quarters of Winter Blast tournament

The American Legion Post 150 Ulster Fillies 16U softball team fell to the Chiefs Fastpitch of Ronkonkoma 2-0 in the quarterfin­als of the recent Adirondack Sportsdome Winter Blast softball tournament.

Grace Tremper doubled and singled to pace Ulster in the loss.

Kailyn Lukaszewsk­i homered and knocked in three runs as the Fillies prevailed over the CT Lady Knights Black of Southingto­n, Connecticu­t 6-3. Victoria Demercurio, threw a complete game six-hitter, striking out four allowing three runs and also had a RBI.

Jolie Poulsen doubled, singled and knocked in two runs, Melonie Papulia and Bianca Novotny each hit a double and scored a run, and Grace Tremper and Monica Reyes each singled and scored a run.

The Fillies opened the pool play by edging the CD Crossfire 3-2. Papuli threw a complete-game four-hitter, fanning four, while allowing three walks and two runs.

Demercurio hit a home run and singled; Novotny homered, Tremper tripled, doubled and scored a run; Papuli hit a double and Lukawszews­ki singled and had an RBI to lead the Fillies.

The Fillies then blanked the Guilderlan­d Bulldogs 11-0. DeMercurio hurled a complete game two-hitter and helped her cause with three singles, two RBIs and by scoring a run.

Novotny homered, doubled and scored two runs; Ryan Fitzgerald doubled, singled, had a RBI and scored two runs; Papuli hit two singles and had two RBI; Tremper hit two singles and scored three runs and Lukaszwesk­i singled, had a RBI and scored two runs to lead Ulster.

The Fillies finished pool play with a 4-4 draw with the Chiefs Fastpitch. Papuli threw her second complete game of the day striking out six, while allowing four hits, five walks and four runs, one of them earned.

DeMercuiro doubled, singled, had a RBI and scored one run; Novotny tripled and scored a run and Papuli singled and had two RBI to lead the Fillies.
