Daniel Nelson Lamb of Lodge Road died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018. He was vacationing in Turks and Caicos with family, celebrating his beloved sister and brother-in-law’s 50th wedding anniversary.

The son of the late Daniel N. Sr. and Margret O’Neil Lamb, Dan was born Sept. 25, 1952; Dan was truly a son of Saugerties. After graduating from Saugerties High School, class of 1970, he went on to receive his undergraduate degree in government from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., where he was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. A gifted second tenor, Dan was also a member of The Laurentian Singers, and toured Europe and South America with this acapella group. Law school bound, Dan subsequently earned his Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School, graduating in 1977.

In 1978, he began practicing law with his father at the law firm of Rosenblum and Lamb on Market Street, where he continued to practice and serve his community until his untimely death. In addition to specializing in real estate, trusts, estates, and commercial transactions, he was appointed by the Town Board and served as the Saugerties Town Attorney for well over ten years. During that time, working with a team of engineers, he was instrumental in overseeing the project which helped bring sewers and water treatment plants to Glasco and Malden. In 1993 he was elected Town Justice of Saugerties and in November 2017 he was reelected to a seventh term.

Always keen to play an active role in the community, Lamb’s accomplishments were many and varied. In addition to a short stint as a volunteer firefighter, he was a member of the Ulster County Bar Association, a member and past president of the Town of Saugerties Republican Club, the first vice chairman of the Ulster County Republican Committee, the president of the Mountain View cemetery association, and a member of the Catskill Glee Club. Dan’s charitable and pro bono works throughout the community are too numerous to list, but include his work for the Ulster Health Foundation at Kingston Hospital, the Kingston YWCA, and the Saugerties Historical Society. Daniel had a real passion for history and took immense joy in his role as a custodian of Saugerties’ past. In recent years, he had been working with local historians to catalogue his vast archives of Saugerties related maps and documents into what would become The Lamb Center.

In spite of his many commitments, Daniel always found time for his true passion, his family and friends. It was in these hours spent sharing time with good company that he was truly happiest. In addition to being a gourmet chef, Dan was a voracious reader and lover of books. His sense of humor was famous as was his kindness and generosity.
