Donald C. Quackenbush, 79, of of Rhinebeck
RHINEBECK, N.Y. » Donald C. Quackenbush, 79, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, after a long illness.
Born in Watervliet, N.Y., he was the son of Helen F. and Donald C. Quackenbush.
Don attended Watervliet schools and Hudson Valley Community College, where he earned an associate’s degree in electrical engineering. He was employed by IBM-Poughkeepsie for forty years, until his retirement in 1997.
In June 1960, he married Carole Belonga. Carole predeceased him in May 2010.
Don and Carole moved to Rhinebeck in 1960, where they raised their family and actively participated in the community.
Don was active in the town of Rhinebeck, where he served as a member of the town recreation committee, then as councilman and town supervisor. During his time in these offices, he oversaw many of the town’s improvement projects that endure today, including the construction of the town pool, tennis courts and dock restoration.
Don participated in many other community organizations which have strengthened the fabric of the Rhinebeck community, including the Lions Club, Jaycees, Little League, and Junior League baseball. Additionally, he was active in the Good Shepherd Church, acting as an usher at 9 a.m. Mass and a member of the parish education committee.
He is survived by his children, Christine M. Quackenbush of Greenwich, Conn., Cathryn Quackenbush (Peter Moore) of Granite Springs, N.Y., Donald F. Quackenbush of Tempe, Ariz., and James A. Quackenbush (Denise) of Buena Park, Calif.; his grandchildren, Patrick, Daniel, and Sophie Moore, Emma and James Quackenbush; his nieces, Michelle Trewhella of Warren, Mich., Jeannine Schubring-Wiltsey of Warren, Mich., and Michael Wiltsey of Fort Wayne, Ind.
Calling hours will be held at Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 West Market St., Rhinebeck, on Friday, March 16, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Mass will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Rhinebeck Cemetery.
