Corey J. Kolvenbach, 38, of Shokan
SHOKAN » Corey J. Kolvenbach, 38, of Shokan, N.Y., passed away Monday, March 12, 2018, at Kingston Hospital, Kingston, N.Y. The son of Annette Lopez Culver and Gary D. Kolvenbach, he was born Sept. 27, 1979, in Port Jervis, N.Y.
Corey graduated Rondout Valley High School in 1997 and attended the State University of New York at New Paltz, N.Y. He was employed as a Housewares Manager at H. Houst & Son Inc. in Woodstock, N.Y., where he was well-liked and respected by his coworkers.
Along his journey in life, Corey found enjoyment in creative writing, poetry, martial arts, traveling, listening to eclectic music, culinary arts, performing in a band and producing ideal practical jokes with brilliant wit. He was a compassionate and fiercely loyal soul who shared a deep commitment for others. His absence will be deeply felt by all whom he touched.
He is survived by his father, Gary D. Kolvenbach, at home; mother and father, Annette Lopez Culver and Ron Culver of New Paltz, N.Y.; brothers, Eric R. Culver of Ohio and Ron Culver Jr. of Texas; fiancée, Greta Scow, at home; grandparents, Edwin and Agnes Culver of Port Jervis, N.Y.; as well as several aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Elba I. Rijos and Tony Robles of Port Jervis, N.Y., Sixto Lopez of Puerto Rico, and Bernice and Herman Kolvenbach of Port Jervis, N.Y.
Cremation will be private.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a Memorial Celebration of Corey’s life at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main St., Phoenicia, N.Y. 12464. Oscar Lopez will officiate.
Corey lived a life full of hope and thoughtfulness. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you honor his memory by performing a selfless act of kindness towards someone in need.
