Man admits to robbing Uptown Key Bank

-

A Greene County man has pleaded guilty to robbing Key Bank on Wall Street in January, Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright said Thursday.

Ryan J. O’Connor, age unavailable, of Staco Road, Hannacroix, pleaded guilty Thursday before Ulster County Court Judge Donald A. Williams to robbery, a felony.

O’Connor was indicted by an Ulster County grand jury earlier this year in the Jan. 18 robbery of Key Bank at 276 Wall St. The incident was one of a series of bank robberies alleged to have been committed by O’Connor in Albany, Rensselaer and Ulster counties over a period of several weeks last winter.

The Kingston Police Department handled the investigation and arrest of O’Connor, with assistance from the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Michael Kavanagh. O’Connor was represented by the Ulster County Public Defender’s Office.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 12.

On the day of the Kingston robbery, O’Connor was arrested at about 5 p.m. on the Thruway Exit 19 roundabout in the town of Ulster, just outside the city, following a car chase.

Kingston police said officers responded at 4:40 p.m. to the Key Bank for a report of a robbery and quickly found the vehicle involved.

Police said O’Connor did not resist when he was taken into custody and that the money stolen during the robbery, along with other evidence, was recovered.

No weapon was shown during the robbery and no one was injured.

There also was no customers were in the bank at the time of the incident.

It was the second time in the past year that the Key Bank on Wall Street was robbed.
