Molly Van Der Poel of Kingston, a student at the State University of New York at Oneonta, was among a group of students from the college who traveled to New Orleans to attend the American Marketing Association’s 40th Annual International Collegiate Conference.
Van Der Poel is a member of SUNY OnMark, SUNY Oneonta’s chapter of the American Marketing Association. The club was awarded seventh place in the “Chapter of the Year” competition out of about 400 colleges and universities.
SUNY OnMark also received an honorable mention for the excellence of its website, and several members were chosen to speak about their quality in membership recruitment.
Van Der Poel is majoring in professional accounting.
••• Michael A. Valleau of Wallkill, a student at Clarkson University in Potsdam, received the Commendable Service Award.
A limited number of Commendable Service Awards are presented annually to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, faculty, staff and administration members who have demonstrated quality in service to their area/organization. The award candidate should be a well-rounded individual who excels in all aspects of college life and is especially dedicated to serving his or her organization.
Valleau is majoring in mechanical engineering.
••• Three area residents at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. — Thomas Horner of Lake Katrine, Angel McHugh of Wingdale and Emily Barden of Chatham — were among senior student honored at an awards ceremony on April 17.
Each received honors scholar certificates. Horner also received level 3 certification as an academic tutor. Barden was the recipient of an Entrepreneurship Award.
••• Bethann Zeman of Kingston, a student at the University of Findlay in Ohio, participated in the university’s Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity.
Zeman’s presentation was titled “A Physical Approach to Reduce the Incidence of Cesarean Sections.”
The symposium gave undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to share their research, creativity and professional learning experiences with the university and community.
••• Jenna Cerulli of Red Hook was named to the dean’s list at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I., for the fall semester.
Students earn dean’s list status by achieving a grade point average of 3.4 or higher.
She is a member of the Class of 2018.
