Graduated
• Airman Apprentice Christopher Otis of Kingston graduated from the U.S. Navy basic training at Naval Station in Illinois on April 13.
Otis, 24, successfully completed eight weeks of intensive training.
Following graduation, he will attend a school at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida for training to become an aviation electronics technician, intermediate level.
He is the son of Karen Volk and James Otis, both of Kingston.
Awarded
The following area residents serving in the New York Army National Guard received the Humanitarian Service Award for their participation in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief support missions after the devastation cause by hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria last year:
• Sgt. Michael Benjamin of Kingston, serving with Company B, 3-142nd Aviation Battalion, for service in Puerto Rico from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3.
• Sgt. John Hewitt of Saugerties, serving with Company B, 3-142nd Aviation Battalion, for service in Puerto Rico from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3.
• Spc. Brittin Caffrey of Gardiner, serving with the 1156th Engineer Company, for service in Puerto Rico from Oct. 19 to Nov. 16.
• Spc. Juan Cruz of Ellenville, serving with the 442nd Military Police Company, for service in Puerto Rico from Oct. 1 to Nov. 6.
• Spc. Joshua Albach of Wallkill, serving with the 442nd Military Police Company, for service in Puerto Rico from Oct. 1 to Dec. 15.
Promoted
The following area residents serving in the New York Army National Guard were promoted:
• David Wilhelm of Kerhonkson, serving with Company C, 2-108th Infantry, to the rank of staff sergeant.
• Janaya Jones of Kingston, serving with the 719th Transportation Company, to the rank of specialist.
• Joseph Tanksley of Lake Katrine, serving with the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 104th Military Police Battalion, to the rank of specialist.
• Gretchen Wagner of New Paltz, assigned to the 1569th Transportation Company, to the rank of private.
• Brandon Charpentier of Kerhonkson, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1-69th Infantry, to the rank of private.
• Bailey Young of Mount Marion, assigned to the Intelligence and Sustainment Company, 42nd Infantry Division, to the rank of private first class.
• Amanda Bard of Red Hook, assigned to the Headquarters and Support Company, 42nd Infantry Division, to the rank of specialist.
