Movies with Spirit in New Paltz on May 19

WHAT: Movies with Spirit screening WHEN: May 19 at 7 p.m. WHERE: St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 163 Main St., New Paltz DETAILS: The Movies with Spirit film series will present “Short Term 12,” starring Brie Larson and John Gallagher Jr. Larson plays Grace, who has dedicated her life to helping at-risk teens, is committed to her job at a short-term care facility. She is also in love with a kindhearted co-worker named Mason, played by Gallagher. Grace struggles to make sense of her own troubled past when something happens to her that will change her life forever. The 2013 film runs 1 hour 36 minutes and is rated R. The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion. Refreshments will be served. Attendees over age 12 are asked to contribute $5 to $10 a person. Harpist performs at Olive Free Library

WHAT: Concert WHEN: May 19 at 4 p.m. WHERE: Olive Free Library, 4033 state Route 28A, West Shokan DETAILS: The library will host “Harp Around the World,” with harpist Julia Haines. Before the concert harp was developed in the 18th century, harps had been important instruments in Africa, Europe and Asia for millennia. Haines will present songs and stories from a variety of world harp traditions throughout time. The music will be performed on a variety of folk harps. A donation of $12 at the door is suggested.
