Robert E. Gardinier, Sr., 89, of Kingston, N.Y., passed away, peacefully, at home on Monday, June 11, 2018. He was surrounded by people who loved him.

A life long resident of the Hudson River Valley, he was raised in Millbrook and Kingston, N.Y., and eventually settled in Kingston, N.Y., with his wife of 64 years Marie Bradley Gardinier. Following World War II – where he served in the submarine division of the U.S. NAVY in the Panama Canal – he graduated college and worked briefly for the New York State Dept. of Finance in Albany, N.Y., and then spent the next 35 years as a manufactur­ing consultant with Internatio­nal Business Machines. He loved the outdoors, and remained remarkably athletic into his early 80’s with biking, swimming, hiking, cross country skiing, and ice skating. He was devoted to the well being of his wife, children, and grandchild­ren, emphasized education, generosity, and fairness and choose actions over words to demonstrat­e his love and beliefs. He forever retained a sense of youth and playfulnes­s, and quietly sought self -improvemen­t his entire life. The amount of quality one on one time he spent with each of his children and grandchild­ren created a unique legacy.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Bradley Gardinier of Kingston, N.Y.; three children, Meg Gardinier Lawder and her Husband Thomas C. Lawder of Westcheste­r County, N.Y., Robert E. Gardinier, Jr. of Beverly Hills and Laguna Beach, Calif., Elizabeth Gardinier Denham and her Husband Ross Denham of Cape May Courthouse, N.J.; five grandchild­ren, Meredith Lawder of Brooklyn, N.Y., Melanie Lawder of Milwaukee, Wis., Madeline Lawder of San Francisco, Calif., Carson Denham and Cameron Denham of Cape May Courthouse, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews throughout New York and New England, including Bonnie Miller of Miramar, Fla.

He was predecease­d by his Parents, George F. Gardinier, Sr., and Josephine Smith Gardinier, and one brother, George F. Gardinier, Jr.

Entrusted to the care of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave., Kingston, N.Y., 12401, where family and friends may visit on Thursday June 14, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. The procession will form at the funeral home on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. and proceed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 22 Livingston St., Kingston, N.Y., 12401, where at 11 a.m. the funeral service will take place. Burial will follow in Hurley Cemetery, Hurley, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Stained Glass Window Fund, 22 Livingston St., Kingston, N.Y., 12401.
