Luise Helene Gertrud McTernan, 95, of Red Hook, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, N.Y.

Born on Feb. 22, 1923, Steinbach-Hallenberg, Thurdingen, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Magelina (Hafner) Christ.

Luise was educated in Germany and graduated from two nursing schools — Victoria Adelheid School in Gotha, and Mecklenhei­de Hannover Infants & Children’s Nursing School.

In 1949, Luise immigrated to Canada and worked in Montreal. In 1953, she immigrated to the United States and worked as a Registered Nurse in Elizabeth and Summit, N.J.

Luise married Robert McTernan on Nov. 26, 1955, at St. Theresa’s Church in Summit, N.J.

In 1968, the McTernan family moved to Red Hook, N.Y., and she worked as a nurse at Northern Dutchess Hospital and Ferncliff Nursing Home, both in Rhinebeck, N.Y.

In addition to her loving husband of over 62 years, Robert McTernan of Red Hook, N.Y., she is survived by a daughter, Patricia (McTernan) Craft of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; a son, Kevin (Nancy Gearhart) McTernan of Greentown, Pa.; a sister, Erika Burkle of Stuttgard, Germany; her loving grandchild­ren, Brooke (Isael) Pimentel of Port Ewen, N.Y., Kelly (Nick) Rooney of Barrytown, N.Y., and Stephen Craft of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; her greatgrand­children, Ezra and Celine Pimentel of Port Ewen, N.Y.; a nephew, Charles (Graca) Puttevils of Brussels, Belgium; a niece, Carine (Robert) Puttevils of Brussels, Belgium; along with numerous additional nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A brother, Richard Christ, and four sisters, Erna Christ, Marie Hoffman, Loni Puttevils, and Gertrud Kunze, predecease­d her.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Saturday, July 21, 2018, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Interment will be private.
