Danish String Quartet performing in Woodstock

WHAT: Concert WHEN: Aug. 12 at 4 p.m.

WHERE: Maverick Concert Hall, 120 Maverick Road, Woodstock

DETAILS: The Danish String Quartet will be performing works by Beethoven, Haydn and Hans Abrahamsen. With its technical and interpreti­ve talents matched by an infectious joy for musicmakin­g and “rampaging energy” (The New Yorker), the Danish String Quartet is in demand worldwide. Since making its debut in 2002 at the Copenhagen Festival, the group has demonstrat­ed a passion for Scandinavi­an composers, who it frequently incorporat­e into adventurou­s contempora­ry programs, while also giving skilled and profound interpreta­tions of the classical masters. Tickets are $55, $30 and $5.

Folk Guild chapter opens new season Sept. 14

WHAT: Concert WHEN: Sept. 14 at 8 p.m.

WHERE: Hyde Park United Methodist Church, Route 9 and Church Street, Hyde Park

DETAILS: The Hudson Valley Folk Guild’s Friends of Fiddler’s Green Chapter opens its 40th season with a performanc­e by Magpie, featuring Greg Artzner and Terry Leonino. Magpie’s eclectic repertoire ranges from classic country to swing, from traditiona­l anthems to blues. Admission is $12, $10 for seniors and $8 for Folk Guild members.
