Running back Morgan Ellison may have played his last down at Indiana after a university panel determined he sexually assaulted a female student.
The conclusions of the panel were first reported by The Indianapolis Star . A person with knowledge of the accusations confirmed the panel’s decision Thursday to The Associated Pres on condition of anonymity because the details have not been made public.
Ellison has not been charged with a crime and it was not immediately known whether he has an attorney. An athletic department official declined to comment, citing privacy laws.
In its findings, the school’s sexual misconduct hearing panel said Ellison should be suspended from Indiana for 2 ½ years. During the hearing, Ellison denied using force and said the incident was consensual.
Gerry Davis, who has umpired a record 144 postseason games, will be the crew chief for the NL Championship Series.
Joe West, whose 5,194 regular-season games are second to Bill Klem’s 5,375, will be the AL Championship Series crew chief, the commissioner’s office said Thursday.
Scott Barry will be behind the plate for Friday night’s NL opener between Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Alan Porter will be at first, Davis at second, Hunter Wendelstedt at third, Jim Wolf in left and Brian Gorman in right.
Greg Gibson will be the replay umpire in New York for the first two games. He’ll join the crew for Game 3 while Barry switches to the replay room. Gibson would be behind the plate for a Game 7.
Abby Wambach lofted a trophy over her head at the last Women’s World Cup. Now retired, her role for the 2019 World Cup will involve guiding the coverage of the event on social media for COPA90.
She’s joining COPA90 in advance of World Cup in France this summer. The appointment was announced on Thursday.
COPA90 is a multi-platform media company headquartered in London that drew attention during the men’s World Cup in Russia for its unconventional look at soccer. The content is featured on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social media platforms.
Wambach holds the international record — among men and women — with 184 goals. She retired in 2015 after the U.S. won the World Cup.
She has since dedicated herself to activism with a focus on gender equity.
