Wawarsing has two candidates for town clerk vacancy

WAWARSING, N.Y. >> Residents on Nov. 6 will choose between nine-year Deputy Clerk Jackie Collier and first-time candidate Tess Cooper to fill the final year of a four-year term as town clerk.

The position is currently held by Andrea Noval, who was appointed when former Clerk Roxanne Shamroo retired with two years remaining in the position.

Collier will be on the Republican, Conservati­ve, and Independen­ce ballot lines. Cooper will be on the Democratic, Green, Working Families, and Womens Equality lines.

Collier, 53, of 64 Weiser Road, Ellenville, is a firsttime candidate for elected office. She has lived in the town for 50 years and with husband David has two children. She graduated from Ellenville High School from 1983 and is a members of the Ellenville Elks Lodge.

“I’m there to serve our residents in the town whether it be answering questions, finding out phone numbers for them, directing them to the proper office, or giving them the help that they need,” she said.

Cooper, 29, of 74 Minnewaska Trail, Wawarsing, is an associate for U.S. Alliance Credit Union. She is a first-time candidate.

Cooper graduated from Cornwall Central High School in 2007 and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from SUNY New Paltz in 2012.

“We to make sure that things get processed in due time,” she said.
