NEW PALTZ, N.Y. >> A woman allegedly driving a stolen vehicle led troopers on a brief chase that ended with a one-car crash, state police said Tuesday.

At about 8:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, state police were alerted to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle in the vicinity of the New York State Thruway in the town of New Paltz, according to a press release from state police at Newburgh.

Police saw the vehicle and attempted to stop it on the thruway, the press release said.

The driver, Marcia Foster, 24, of Troy, sped away from troopers who chased her vehicle for a short time but stopped “for safety reasons,” police said.

Foster allegedly continued to “flee recklessly” and crashed a short time later, police said.

She was arrested without further incident and charged with the felonies of possession of stolen property and reckless endangerment, the misdemeanors of aggravated unlicensed driving and possession of marijuana and the violation of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, along with multiple vehicle and traffic violations, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Police did not identify the vehicle or say where it had been stolen from or where the crash occurred.

Foster was arraigned in New Paltz Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail.
