The 46-year-old suspect also is accused of running over the objects with his vehicle, police say.

A 46-year-old Saugerties man stands accused of smashing his neighbor’s duck decoys with a hammer, police said.

Jean R. Laventure, of Manorville Road, was charged Monday, Dec. 3, with criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, according to the Saugerties Police Department.

Laventure was arrested based on a complaint from one of his neighbors that “Laventure took the complainant’s duck decoys and smashed the decoys to pieces with a hammer,” the police department said.

Police said Laventure then reportedly drove over the smashed decoys with his vehicle and then drove the vehicle toward a 13-year-old, “causing the juvenile to be fearful of being injured.”

Laventure was arraigned in Saugerties Town Court and released without bail.

The court ordered Laventure to stay way from the neighbor.
