Trio lead Kingston to win over Rhinebeck

Jordan Hulbert, Dominic Vertullo and Cameron Fairley captured two events each, as Kingston High opened its Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association boys swim season with a 112-61 victory over Rhinebeck on Wednesday.

Hulbert was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (27 seconds) and diving (196.25 points); Vertullo captured the 100 butterfly (1:07.47) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.11), while Fairley was first in the 200 freestyle (1:56.24) and 100 freestyle (53.48) for the Tigers.

In addition, Hulbert was part of a pair of victorious Kingston relay squads, while Vertullo and Fairley were on one winning relay each.

“We learned a lot about our team,” Kingston coach Chris Sammons said. “They learned they can compete. Rhinebeck is a growing

team and the fact we came out on top says a lot.

“We have a lot of young talent (with only) three seniors and two juniors. I like the direction this is going.”

Other individual winners for Kingston were Mason DeLisio (1:02.01 in 100 backstroke) and Tyson DeLisio (5:47.12 in the 500 freestyle).

Otto Schweppe was the lone individual winner for the Hawks, capturing the 200 individual medley in 2:28.43. He also teamed with Hunter Gutterman, Maxwell Stickle and Khedup Lodue to place first in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:41.92.
