Playhouse all shook up for ‘Blue Christmas’
“Blue Christmas,” an original Christmas variety show, opens an eight-performance run on Friday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. at Phoenicia Playhouse, 10 Church St., Phoenicia.
It’s Christmas 1957 and something terrible has happened. Rock ‘n’ roll idol Elvis Presley has been drafted into the Army. What’s a girl to do? If you’re a member of “Blue Christmas,” the answer is simple. Sing, dance and dream of Elvis as he serenades you to sleep with his well-known hits, Christmas carols, a curled lip and a sultry stare.
Directed by Amy Scheibe, “Blue Christmas” is this year’s featured Phoenicia Playhouse Christmas show. Set in 1957 as a live televised variety show, the light-hearted musical is filled with classic comedy bits from the era, popular Christmas music and real television commercials of the period.
The production stars Wil Anderson, Austin Light-
ning Carrothers, Caitlin Connolly, Ethan Cunha, Angela Galindo, Brian Flynn, Hedda Flynn, David Smilow, Geneva Turner and Elaine Young.
Additional performances opening weekend are Saturday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. “Blue Christmas” runs through Sunday, Dec. 23, with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for adults, and $18 for seniors and students. Call (845) 688-2279 or visit phoeniciaplayhouse.com for tickets or more information.
