State of­fers qual­i­fy­ing tests for life­guards

ARKVILLE, N.Y. >> The state Depart­ment of En­vi­ron­men­tal Con­ser­va­tion has sched­uled life­guard qual­i­fy­ing pro­ce­dures at 4 p.m. Fri­day, April 19, at the Catskill Recre­ation Cen­ter, 651 county Route 38.

Sum­mer life­guard po­si­tions for in­di­vid­u­als 16 and over are avail­able in state camp­grounds through­out the Adiron­dack and Catskill parks. The hourly rate for DEC life­guards is $13.27, and most fa­cil­i­ties of­fer free hous­ing.

Life­guards must have a valid cer­ti­fi­ca­tion for water­front life­guard­ing, CPR for the pro­fes­sional res­cuer and health­care provider and first aid, suc­cess­fully com­plete the state life­guard qual­i­fy­ing pro­ce­dure, sub­mit a cur­rent cer­ti­fi­ca­tion of phys­i­cal abil­ity to per­form life­guard du­ties, meet the 20/70 re­quire­ment in both eyes and com­plete a per­sonal in­ter­view and life­guard ori­en­ta­tion.

Can­di­dates must bring photo iden­ti­fi­ca­tion, cur­rent cer­ti­fi­ca­tions (if avail­able), and a CPR mask.
