An Elizaville woman who was caring for a “very sick” relative is accused of stealing money, jewelry and other items from her, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Capt. John Watterson said Friday.

Susan Niekrewicz, 50, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on Thursday and charged with the felonies of grand larceny and endangering the welfare of an incompetent or disabled adult, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

Niekrewicz is accused of stealing several thousand dollars, jewelry and other personal belongings from her sick relative in Milan during 2018, Watterson said.

Niekrewicz also is suspected of stealing from an elderly woman in Rhinebeck for whom she also was caring, according to Watterson. He said Niekrewicz is not related to the Rhinebeck woman.

Watterson said the Rhinebeck case, also from 2018, is under investigation and charges are pending.

Some of the stolen property in both cases has been recovered, the captain said.

He said Niekrewicz is self-employed and does not hold any kind of home health aide certification.

Niekrewicz was arraigned in Milan Town Court and released under supervision of the Dutchess County Office of Probation, according to the press re-

lease.

Anyone familiar with either case, or who believes another vulnerable adult might be a victim of exploitation, is asked to contact sheriff’s Detective Adam Harris at (845) 486-3852.

The Sheriff’s Office also can be reached at (845) 486-3800, the tip line at (845) 605-2583 or by email at dcotips@gmail. com.
