Red Hook rallies for 5th straight victory

RED HOOK, N.Y. >> Red Hook High rallied from a 10-point second quarter deficit to top Highland 64-58 in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League boys basketball game Friday for the Raiders’ fifth straight win.

Red Hook cut the deficit down to six at the half then went on a 19-11 run in the third to pull ahead 46-44 before riding a 1814 advantage in the fourth to the win.

Raiders Coach Matthew Hayes credited the win to the Raiders defense, particular­ly Reece Curley, shutting down the Huskies’ leading scorer on the night Cameron Ness in the second half.

“Cameron Ness scored 21 points, but 15 of those were in the first half,” Hayes said. “It came down to how we defended Cameron in the second half.

“We switched from man-toman to zone defense in the second half.”

Chris Yearwood scored 20

points, Brandon Cahill pitched in 17 and Jason Davis had 11 for Red Hook while Curley contribute­d 7 assists.

Sean Burkert tacked on 14 points for Highland (65).

Marlboro 72, Rondout Valley 58

At Kyserike, Marlboro built a 10-point lead at the half and never looked back as they downed the Ganders.

The Dukes went on to extend their lead to 58-45 in the third quarter.

Gio Tamburri scored 13 points, Alex Grezechows­ki and Eric Grezechows­ki each pitched in 12 and Sam Mongeli contribute­d 9 for Marlboro.

Jack Arnold scored 21 points and Aaron Coston had 16 for Rondout.

New Paltz 64, FDR 55

At Hyde Park, Axel Rodriguez scored a gamehigh 28 points to lead the Huguenots to victory over the Presidents.

Also pitching in on offense for New Paltz were Patrick Murphy (11 points), Matt Simmons (9), and Sammy Marshall (8).

Dylan Craft led FDR with 15 points, while Conor Harris added 14 of his own.
