Our recommendations will benefit Marbletown
Dear Editor: We are community members of the Planning and Zoning Committee of Marbletown. For the last two years, we have looked at issues related to zoning codes and laws to make recommendations to the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and Town Board.
Marbletown has had an Accessory Law for decades. The Planning and Zoning Committee was asked to review the existing law and recommend updates. Our recommendations for an updated law clarify some gray areas and suggest realistic improvements, such as increasing an apartment size from 750 to 900 square feet. There are other constructive updates that are designed for the overall benefit of the entire community.
The Planning and Zoning Committee consists of an engineer, a historic preservation specialist, two contractors, the planning and zoning board chairs, a sustainable energy specialist, an attorney, a Realtor, an entrepreneur, our professional planner and the town supervisor. In addition, the town attorney and Town Board members often attend and provide input.
Over the years, interested parties have come to our meetings, especially when the agenda included the newly designed solar law and the changes to the industrial zoned areas
The primary intent behind our recommendations is to allow our residents to be able stay in our beautiful town, whether that resident is 20 or 70 years old. This is a well-thought-out and well-written law, and we ask for the community’s support as written.
