David William Scherbarth, 60, of Pittsburgh, Pa.
PITTSBURGH, PA. >> David William Scherbarth born on Nov. 6, 1958, in Baltimore, Md., to Doris Scherbarth Stinefelt and Richard Scherbarth, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019.
Dave lived in Baltimore, West Hurley, N.Y., and Denver, Colo., during his childhood. He graduated from Onteora High School in 1976. Dave received a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Union College and a master’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dave worked for over 38 years at Westinghouse and then CurtissWright, where he was a key contributor to technology advancements for the military, including the development of a motor/ generator to launch and recover aircraft. He was one of the most respected and loved engineers at his company, one who graciously shared his experiences in mentoring tomorrow’s engineers.
In 1987, Dave met the love of his life, Marie Malasavage. They married in the fall of 1989. They have two sons, Matthew, 25 and Andrew, 21. For the 60 years he shared with us, Dave exemplified the best qualities of the human spirit, treating his family, friends, and coworkers with unwavering kindness and compassion. Those who knew Dave are blessed with eternal memories of his altruism and joy. He will be greatly missed.
Dave is survived by his mother, Doris; his brother, Steve, of West Hurley, N.Y.; and his wife, Marie, and their sons, Matthew and Andrew, of Pittsburgh, Pa. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Friday, 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Saturday, Mass of Christian Burial St. Bede Church, 10 a.m.
