Minnie Maye Whitaker, 90, of Port Ewen

PORT EWEN >> Minnie Maye Whitaker, 90, of Port Ewen, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at Wingate at Ulster in Highland, N.Y.

She was born May 5, 1928, in Kingston, to the late Chester and Helen (Christiansen) Soper. She was married to her loving husband, Alfred “Bud” Whitaker. They wed on June 10, 1951; Bud passed away on Jan. 18, 1996.

Minnie was a beautician for many years and worked at Golden Hill Health Care Center in Kingston. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at the VA Hospital in Albany.

Minnie is survived by her sons, Robert P. Whitaker of Palm Coast, Fla., and D.J. Whitaker and his wife Dorene of Tillson, N.Y.; her grandchildren, William Miller and Christopher Whitaker, both of Tilson, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Laura Markle and Evelyn Hart, and her daughter-in-law, Karen Mack Whitaker.
