Hotel/conference center planned near Stewart

NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. >> A Bronx developer plans to build a large-scale commercial project at the doorstep to New York Stewart International Airport.

The first phase of SDC Hudson Valley Realty’s project, at the corner of Bruenig Road and International Boulevard in New Windsor, in front of the airport’s main parking lot and terminal, is to be an 86,000-square-foot, 128room hotel and conference center.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2020 with completion a year later.

The company has applied to the Orange County Industrial Development Agency for financial incentives. IDA Chief Operating Officer Laurie Villasuso said the developer is counting on more growth at the airport and its environs.

“They are anticipating not only the carrier traffic from Stewart and obviously the incredible leaps and bounds that Orange County has made in its tourism industry, but also part of their overall plan is that they themselves, as developers, will be populating Stewart Airport with some new and exciting ventures yet to come,” Villasuso said.

Another new hotel is planned a short distance away. That 43,000-squarefoot, 80-room Fairfield Inn and Suites is to be constructed near an existing hotel built several years ago by the same partnership.

A 14,000-square-foot, four-story Holiday Inn Express is planned on Union Avenue in New Windsor, not far from the Bruenig Road entrance to the airport.

The Fairfield and Holiday Inn projects also are seeking IDA incentives.
