Congress needs to stop fake national emergency

-

Dear Editor: Congress must act now to stop the president’s misuse of the national emergency power.

the fact that you do not get your way does not constitute an emergency. The president is not acting in an adult fashion. A national emergency is supposed to be declared only in the most extreme situations, not because you were not given the money to build a useless, expensive wall. This is similar to your toddler throwing a fit in the supermarket because you will not buy the sugary cereal.

Our current pseudo-leader is not putting this country first. He admires dictators and seems to think he is one. In case he has forgotten, there are supposed to be checks and balances in place to prevent the abuse of power. He does not seem to feel rules apply to him.

We cannot allow him to use dangerous methods to push forward a harmful agenda. He denies the advice of his own security advisers who do not see a national emergency at the border.

This is all meant to distract us from his heading the EPA with someone who cares nothing about the environment, heading the Education Department with someone set on destroying public education, and generally choosing someone inappropriate for every post with an eye to having things done his way.

Well Mr. President, this cannot be allowed. You are taking powers that do not belong to you and for which you are not qualified. This needs to stop before something worse happens here, and believe me, it will. He is well down the path of fascism already.

Our members of Congress must immediately condemn him and pass a resolution to strike down his fake national emergency. Our democracy depends on it. Roberta Keogan Saugerties
