Reynolds, Strauss earn state berths
Kingston High’s Sean Reynolds and John Strauss of Onteora claimed spots in next week’s state Alpine ski championships after qualifying in the Section 9 meet at Gore Mountain on Thursday.
Reynolds placed second to Monticello’s Shane Bittinger with a combined best giant slalom/slalom time of 1:08.50.
Strauss was fifth overall with a 1:09.87.
The duo return to Gore Mountain for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships Feb. 25-26.
Monticello won the boys and girls team titles. The Onteora boys team of Strauss, Oliver Rands and Raffaele Legnini were fourth and Reynolds, Nick Deising and Tom Keegan had Kingston fifth.
Onteora’s girls team of Julia Strauss, Analie Ingalsbe and Tierney Byron placed third.
