News feed Serino aids food drive at elementary school

HYDE PARK, N.Y. » State Sen. Sue Serino is holding a non-perishable food drive for local students that will run through March 29.

Donations can be delivered to Serino’s Hyde Park office at 4254 Albany Post Road between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.

The donations will be used by the Ralph R. Smith Elementary School Back Pack Program, which provides students in need with foods to help them through the weekend. Every Friday, the students are given a backpack stocked with non-perishable foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Donations can include, but are not limited to items such as individual cereal boxes, soups, packaged tuna fish, peanut butter, jelly, and snack bars

Although Serino’s office cannot accept monetary donations, those wishing to donate money can do so by contacting the school’s principal, Melissa Lawson, at (845) 229-4060.
