Student brought gun to school, police say
Authorities said the weapon was located in Quentin Wiggins’ backpack by security personnel about 7:50a.m. Tuesday.
A Poughkeespsie High School student was arrested after trying to bring a handgun into the school on Tuesday, according to city police.
Quentin Wiggins, 19, of Poughkeepsie, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, both felonies, police said.
Police said the handgun was located in Wiggins’ backpack by school security about 7:50 a.m. The Poughkeepsie Journal reported the gun was loaded.
Poughkeepsie Police Department Capt. Richard Wilson said the gun was secured and the suspect was taken to city police headquarters.
The school was placed in lockdown for about an hour after the gun was discovered and while the building was searched.
