Other juniors who were inducted included Ethan Kleinke, Joseph Masula, Julie Mazariego, Grace Meehan, Gabriela Mills, Kyla Misasi, Matthew Morgan, Mary Mullen, Dominic Nace, Jody Nameth, Ilana Numssen, Tatum Padilla, Nicole Peters, Alyssa Rose, Alexis Sasso, Sharan Sekhon, Amy Shultis, Savannah Sirico, Morgan Sperl, Kaylie Sullivan, Carter Vail, Ethan Via Pietrzak, Caleb Vickery, Johanna Weeks and Dawson Wood.

••• Melody Burke and Jack Zheng were named the Hunter-Tannersvil­le Middle/High School students for April.

A seventh-grade Burke represente­d the Maroon Group (grades 7-9). She has been on the principal’s honor roll each quarter. She is the goalie on the soccer team, plays the post position in basketball and is the catcher and first baseman on the softball team.

Burke volunteers for the CROP Program. She likes riding her bike and has many interests in different animals, to name a few: horses, pandas, tigers and cheetahs. Her teachers describe her as a good leader who is respectful. Burke plans to go to college to be a veterinari­an or a teacher and plans to travel the world.

She is the daughter of Jason and Jessica Miller of Tannersvil­le.

Zheng, a sophomore, represents the “Gold Group” (grades 10-12). He is a member of the National Art Honor Society and recently was inducted into the National Honor Society. He has been consistent­ly on the superinten­dent’s honor roll this year and last. He is also a member of the Yearbook Club and has been actively contributi­ng to create a quality yearbook for 201819. Zheng was part of the stage crew for the musical production of “The Addams Family”.

Zheng plays defense in soccer and plans to continue this sport. He was also a starting player on the junior varsity basketball team this year. His hobbies and interests include art and animation. Zheng likes to design art and animation styles in his free

time. He also likes to volunteer to work with, and tutor, younger students. Zheng’s teachers describe him as a diligent student with excellent attendance. He likes school and the interactio­n it provides with his peers. Zheng hopes to earn a degree and enter the business world.

He is the son of Chao Yong Zheng and Lin Qiu of Hunter.

The criteria the school’s staff considers in nominating a student are academic perseveran­ce, involvemen­t in school/community activities, participat­ion in sports/hobbies, respectful­ness, determined to succeed in an endeavor, dedicated to do their best and dependabil­ity.

Each student of the month enjoys a lunch or dinner for two at The Last Chance Antiques and Cheese Café, a one-day lift ticket at Hunter Mountain provided by Peak Resorts, two passes to the Mountain Cinema from the Catskill Mountain Foundation, an engraved pen from the Student Parent Teacher Organizati­on, a family bumper sticker from the Board of Education and a compliment­ary special breakfast from Principal Thomas Cervola.
