Saugerties church awards Beatitude Scholarship
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. >> Kailey Collins, Connor Staby and Jackson Baker were chosen as the winners of this year’s Jack Rose Memorial Beatitude Scholarship offered by St. John the Evangelist Church, 915 Route 212.
Collins, Staby and Baker will each receive a scholarship for $485. A total of $1,455 was raised by Barbara Renner’s fourthgrade religious education class, with the help of the parish.
Each year, as part of the curriculum in the class, the children are taught the Beatitudes. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus preached the eight Beatitudes and taught his followers that true and lasting happiness is only found when they put God first in their lives and when they treat others well.
Over the last 22 years, the fourth-graders, along with the help of the church’s parishioners, have been able to award 56 scholarships totaling $20,245.
