Brooklyn man hospitalized after fall at Sam’s Point
A Brooklyn man was hospitalized with leg and head injuries Sunday after he fell off a cliff at Sam’s Point at Minnewaska State Park Preserve, according to Dan Keefe, a public information officer at the New York state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, which operates the park.
Keefe said state park police responded around 5:30 p.m. Sunday to reports of a hiker who fell off a 60-foot cliff at Sam’s Point on Minnewaska’s Hamilton Beach Trail.
Keefe said with the assistance of the Mohonk Rescue team, rescue crews were able to bring the 48-yearold man to the top of the cliff by about 7:45 p.m. Authorities declined to release the man’s name.
The man was later taken by ambulance by Hatzalah Emergency Medical Services to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie with leg and head injuries, Keefe said.
Keefe said the incident remains under investigation by state park police.
Police were assisted by the Accord Fire Department, New York State Police, and the Ulster County Sheriffs Office.
