Red Hook girls clinch 17th straight MHAL title

RED HOOK, N.Y. >> Red Hook rolled to a 7-0 win over Rondout Valley on Thursday to clinch its 17th straight Mid-Hudson Athletic League girls soccer Division II title and improve to 9-0 in league play.

With the win, the Raiders, 12-0 overall, clinch a berth in the league semis on Monday Oct. 21.

Grace Hennig opened the scoring in the fifth minute off a Kelcie Horst assist. Ani Safaryan found the net in the 11th minute to make it 2-0. One minute later, Hennig scored her second goal of the game, again off a feed from Horst to push Red Hook ahead 3-0. In the 23rd minute, Hennig deposited a feed from Grace Berardi into the net to earn the hat trick and give The Raiders a 4-0 lead.

Hennig later played a ball that Safaryan finished for her second goal in the contest in the closing minute of the first half to put Red Hook up 5-0.

The Raiders continued their momentum in the second half with Sam Riley scorning unassisted in 41st minute and Safaryan earning a hat trick of her own off a Grace Hennig assist in the 47th minute to round out the scoring.

Red Hook dominated 16-6 in shots and 5-1 in corners.

Morgan Tompkins and Kaitlyn Krinitsky combined for four saves for the Raiders, while Makayla Ryan made six stops for the Ganders.

Mount Academy 1, Dover 0

At Dover Plains, Marilyn Decker’s goal off a Rena Ben Eliezer assist made the difference for the Eagles (100-1) as they edged the Dragons.

Sophie Keiderling made two saves and Jamie Schiavone recorded six for Dover.

Ellenvile 5, Pine Plains 0

At Pine Plains, the Devils put up four unanswered goals in first half as they downed the Bombers.

Fed the ball by Isabela Castro, Katherine Lopez got Ellenville on the board two minutes into the contest on a half volley from 10 yards out that went over Pine Plains goalkeeper Alexander Coons.

Castro later took a shot low from 12 yards out in the 14th minute to put the Devils up 2-0.

Sydney Franza took an assist from Kim Abrams, beat a Pine Plains defender and finished a shot from 12 yards out to push Ellenville’s advantage to 3-0.

Two minutes later, Nicole Aguirre scored the Devils’ fourth goal on a blast from 15 yards out. Jessica McHugh had an assist on the tally.

With minutes to play in the contest Isabela Castro played a through ball from Alyssa Santiago and got it past Coons low at the far post to round out the scoring for the Devils (7-4, 6-2).

Ellenville dominated 22-6 in shots and 6-0 in corners.

Adriana Anderson made four stops for the Devils, while Coons had nine for the Bombers.

Saugerties 3, Roosevelt 1

At Saugerties, Ashlynn DeRonda scored a pair of goals and Julia Quinlan added a goal to key the Sawyers’ victory over the Presidents.

Quinlan and Daggett each added contribute­d assists for Saugerties.

Maria Volino scored the Roosevelt’s lone goal.

Abigail Below recorded six save for the Sawyers, while Danya Clarke had 13 for the Presidents.
