Legislator Greene running unopposed for fourth term

Threeterm Ulster County Legislator Manna Jo Greene is running unopposed for re-election to the District 19 seat.

Greene, 74, is a Democrat who lives in Rosendale. District 19 comprises Rosendale and part of Marbletown.

This is the third time Greene will be unchalleng­ed for the seat to which she first was elected in 2013. Her name will appear on the Democratic and Working Families Party lines on ballot.

The environmen­tal director for Hudson River Sloop Clearwater Inc., Greene believes the county must take bold steps in the face of what she called the “urgent and critical” issue of climate change..

A former critical care nurse at Benedictin­e Hospital, Greene said health care and public safety also are priorities, as are workers’ rights and labor issues and the need for affordable housing.

Greene is chairwoman of the Ulster County County Climate Smart Committee; she created the Green Business Challenge; and she works to encourage the county government, businesses, institutio­ns and residents to take climate solution actions.

She also is co-chairwoman of the Energy Working Group of the MidHudson Regional Sustainabi­lity Coalition, which is working to develop a Regional Renewable Energy Implementa­tion Plan.

Greene is the sponsor a food waste diversion law now pending in the Ulster County Legislatur­e, and chairwoman of the Solid Waste Planning Commission, which is developing a 10-year solid waste management plan for Ulster County.

Greene is among eight people in the 23-member Legislatur­e running unopposed for re-election.

Voters can cast their ballots at one of the county’s eight early voting sites between Oct. 26 and Nov. 3.

Election Day is Nov. 5.
