Pine Plains defeats Onteora

- Freeman staff

Kyle Stracher ran for 206 yards and three touchdowns Thursday night, leading undefeated Pine Plains/Rhinebeck to a 40-24 victory over Onteora High in Section 9 8-man football action.

Stracher scored on runs of 53, 24 and 15 yards for the Bombers, who improved their record to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in Division 2.

Calab McCaul also had a big night, rushing for 65 yards, throwing a 45-yard TD pass to Sebastian Burmester, returning an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and also scoring on five 2-point conversion plays.

The heroics by Stracher and McCaul helped overcome a tough outing against Onteora (1-5, 0-5). Quarterback Owen Allison and receiver Anthony Umhey led the Eagles. Allison threw for 254 yards, including TD passes to Umhey and Irwin Walden. Umhey had two catches for 80 yards.

Nick Ross, who scored on an 80-yard kickoff return, had 12 tackles to lead the Onteora defense. Allison had nine tackles, one forced fumble and a 64-yard return, and Pat Ross had eight tackles and two forced fumbles and recoveries.

“They are a really good football team,” Pine Plains coach Rob

Scott said. “We did not play our best game of the year. We turned the ball over four times tonight, gave up a few long pass plays and kickoff return for a touchdown. This was a short week for both teams and Onteora responded better than we did to the short week.”

Burmester, Stracher and Luke Imperato each had six tackles, Dalton Burns and Andrew Speedling had five apiece, and Burmester, Speeding and Tristan Riccobono all registered sacks to lead the Bomber defense.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19. Pine Plains is at Pawling for a 6 p.m. game and Onteora will play host to Dover in a 7 p.m. contest at Dietz Stadium.
